If I was in your situation, I would buy the Melling high pumping capacity water pump in the truck style from Jegs or maybe Summit. A little more fluid movement can't hurt and the little difference in price would not matter to me here.

Let it go till it fails or starts leaking out the weep hole. What says the new one won't fail prematurely? My truck has 175K. Original pump. My 07 had 207K when I sold it. Original pump.

If you must, buy OEM.

 

Just wait til it starts to fail, they usually have some warning signs before they go so you can get parts and fix it when you want. You might have one of the good ones that lasts a lot longer. They are easy to change, minimal tools and doesn't really take that long to do the job either.

Get another GM OEM or ACDELCO and it will probably last a looong time again. If you get a cheap one or "lifetime warranty" parts store special, you will probably be taking advantage of that warranty every year or 2.

I'd leave the water pump. The thing that is going to make it go down is thetransmission.

 

My tranmission does shift pretty hard but it has a corvette servo and a trucool 40k. have flushed the fluid and change it pretty frequently but I plan on getting the trans rebuilt as soon as I find a deal on another Silverado so I have something to drive while it’s in the shop. I would rather choose when my truck is down rather than waiting for things to fail hence why I’m looking to replace the water pump but I guess I will hold off on that

My 2005 5.3 Z71 water pump went out at 249K. I wouldn't mess with it.

 

I have the same year model. same mileage also. she's overheating badly in town. I'm sure it's the water pump. what brand did you go with? I just called our local Chevy dealer, they quoted me $364, plus some inlet part $85, plus 2 bolts for $18. They said you need to change these items along with the water pump. This seems steep a bit.

 

look on rockauto, you may find gm oem cheaper there.

 

does anyone have the part number for ACdelco water pump for 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3? when I search for it, it gives me several AC Delco pumps with different part numbers.
