Hello all, I've searched everywhere and tried just about everything. I've got a 99 2500 with 200K on it that has been sitting for 6 months. To get it to start i replaced the battery and starter. It will start right up, then dies after going up to about 1000 RPM for 2 seconds. It will start everytime then die. I've replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel regulator. I've got another 99 6.0L that i've swapped the MAF, MAP, Idle Air, Throttle Position sensor, both computers, all relays, nothing changes the behavior. I've checked all the fuses i can find that would be releated to engine function, on both fues panels. I've done the Passkey relearn procedure. No Codes as well. Anyone have anthing else to check try? I'm pulling my hair out here and running out of time before the snow starts to fly. HELP

The keys might need to be relearned into the factory system. My old Jeep would do the same thing.

One thing to try.

Turn the ignition to the on position. This is the position where all the lights and icons are on in the dashboard but don't start the car.
Attempt to start the engine. If it doesn't start then release the key back to the on position.
Watch the security light. After 10 to 15 minutes the security light should turn off.
Turn the ignition off and wait 5 seconds.
Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles (30 minutes). The car is now ready to relearn the Passlock sensor data code (or password) the next time the ignition key is turned from off to crank.
The vehicle will learn the Passlock sensor code (or password) on the next turn of the ignition key from off to crank. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. Start the engine. The car has now learned the Passlock sensor data code or (password). Using a scan tool clear any error codes. The history of error codes will clear itself after about 100 cycles of the ignition key.

I have the same problem going on in my 97 monte carlo, but mine only starts hard when the engine is warm(after making several stops store ect,) ., rpms fly and it only sometimes dies but runs perfect once started. Im at a loss as well. Only thing i havent done yet is the IAC valve, fuel pressure regulator or a new fuel filter. I hope one of the 3 fix my issue as well. Thing i dont get is that it starts perfect every morning :?

Has anyone seen a start up and run cycle diagram for these GMCs? What would make the injectors turn off after the initial start up? Occording to the wiring diagram they main computer runs the injectors, but I don't know what would tell them not to fire. If it was the crank position or cam position sensor wouldn't it post an error? I'm got plenty of fuel pressure on the fuel rail but it will only start for less then 2 seconds the quits. If i spray starting spray into the throttle body i runs quite well. Spraying gas in the throttle body does about the same thing just not quite as smooth running. I went through the diagnostics test screens on my scanner again tonight and everything i can test seems to work or comes back with a pass. All Read codes screens are clear no errors at all. Thanks for all the suggestions.

DalejrFan88, Your issue sounds more like a Maf,Map or fuel pressure regulator issue, i'm surprised it doesn't throw a code when it acts up.

Just an update, Even though i wasn't throwing any codes or warnings on the message center. I ended up having to replace the ignition housing in the column and re-program my key to the new senor in the housing. Seems to be pretty rare of an event but it apparently does happen that it won't throw a code but the Passlock system sensor is dead.

Hello my friend I understand your frustration but be patient what I have to say may help you, if your vehicle is a Chevy or GM you will always look for the blinking check engine light, if it blinks at you at all you are dealing with a Passlock issue, please do not waste your time looking else where, you will just waste your time and money.
